New Hard Drive

Sat, 2006-02-04 14:38

The new 80GB Seagate Barracuda finally arrived. It is installed and the only time it failed to boot was when I tried using the old drive as a slave.

I installed OpenSUSE on a dual boot setup and have been using it almost exclusively. Linux is as much of a headache as anything else computer related. I have been pretty much going about my business just fine and only booted up into Windows to update the antivirus.

I was happy to fine that PocoMail runs under WINE, but it does behave very strangely. I also run Firefox under WINE. I wanted to try the newest version, but it is not available from the SUSE update and I couldn't figure out how to install it with the tarball. I am not able to find these programs using the terminal so I have to navigate through the file manager. bummer.

Well, my linguistics site has languished and moved quite glacially since I have been wasting my blogging time on goofy 'anti-Bush' sites that turn out to have all the backbone and imagination of a dim-witted, arthritic slug. But I will complete my mission at the linguistics site, now that I'm so totally disillusioned. Let the dyseducated, overfed masses do a little of the protesting.

I am still on 98SE!!!

When I get the energy, I plan to try out:

SimplyMEPIS Linux. It's widely said to be the very best KDE friendly distro. And it has a live-run CD option. See:

Reasonably simple, yet powerful word editors for Linux seem to be very hard to come by. You might want to check out:

I was on '98 until the summer of '06. I got XP by accident. PCBSD runs so much faster than XP even with less RAM.

I have heard great things about SimplyMEPIS Linux. I have the install disks but for whatever reason it did not win the day. I tried so many, sometimes one right after the other. That sort of thing gets old pretty quick.

I use NoteTab and it runs under WINE. I have been trying out some of the native editors but I need to get NoteTab on the other laptop if I want to get any serious work done. It is the only thing I really need except maybe Firefox.

Yep I can personally vouch for the fact that the Internet has all kinds. Cool having your own site though, websites are the most patient of pets and will wait around for darn near forever! Best of luck with yours!
