This morning when I woke up and booted my computer, I was given a black screen and the message: No operating system found, hit F1 to search again. There was even a cute ASCII diagram showing where F1 could be found. It didn't help. I even booted with a live CD and my hard drive was not showing up. I have been at work all day and won't be able to try again for a couple of hours. I do wish I was more into the regular backup thingy.
No Problems Today
Follow-up, and a test of the nifty comment feature of this site:
The computer worked fine when I got home that night, and I have had no more trouble with it. Probably because I backed everything up immediately
The working theory at the moment is that there is a loose connection between the hard drive and the power supply or the motherboard. Popping this baby open is not my idea of a good time, but it may be a good idea for me to make sure my connections are solid. If I have any problems after that, I will likely look into a replacement cable.
